At Bookblock, sustainability is high on the agenda. Principles of reuse and recycle are interwoven into the creative production process to ensure that we give you not only great quality bespoke products, but also products that are ethically sourced and kind to the place we all call home.
From FSC ® recycled paper to locally sourced British chocolate, we consider everything from air mile usage and unnecessary waste in our production stages, to agricultural impact within our recipes leading us to have a fantastic vegan range. Although going full eco is a challenge, we are committed to doing our bit as much as we can. To find out more about this, why not check out our eco and vegan collections in the product filter.
Our materials & packaging
At Bookblock, with cards and notebooks being our thing, you’ll be pleased to know that all of our infill paper is FSC®️, recycled and contains no chemical dies. Even the finishing touches such as the book wraps have been considered, with a biodegradable laminate film being used. Supported by the message of reuse and recycle, we’re pleased that we are able to extend the life cycle of our products beyond single use. When you come to recycle a card or notebook, it might even end up back with you in your garden as compost!
As well as cards and notebooks, all our printed boxes are corrugated and our premium boxes are made with FSC®️ (FSC®️-C154829) certified paper recycled board with some having an additional biodegradable laminate. All mailer bags used and any plastic packaging used in puzzles are also fully biodegradable.
We’re all too aware, however, that more can always be done. We’re currently reworking the few products that are still in plastic packaging to make them more sustainable. For example our fav Alska bath salts are currently in plastic tubs but we’re working hard on creating biodegradable sachets for them, to make those long hot soaks feel even better!
Our products
Using local suppliers and knowing exactly where our resources come from is incredibly important to us at Bookblock. Firstly, our own chocolate is British and in nearly all cases, completely handmade. Our Butterscotch Fudge is completely vegan made with only fair trade ingredients created lovingly by the Cotswold Fudge Company. In addition to our Fudge from the Cotswolds, our truffles originate from Norfolk and our artisan chocolates come from Yorkshire.
Moving on from the sweeter things in life, all of our beautifully bespoke dried flowers originate from no further than Europe. With a large portion sourced from Atlas flowers, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of natural products with sustainability at the core of their values.
